Abstract

INTRODUCTION:

Obesity is an epidemic nowadays and this fact conditions results in orthopaedic surgery. Very few studies evaluates if obesity is a risk factor for reverse shoulder arthroplasty. The aim of this study is to confirm if there are differences with regard to the outcomes in patients undergoing reverse shoulder arthroplasty according to their body mass index (BMI).

CONCLUSION:

Functional outcomes of reverse shoulder arthroplasty are worse in patients with a BMI over 35.

Resumen

INTRODUCCIÓN:
La obesidad es una epidemia hoy en día y este hecho condiciona la cirugía ortopédica. Muy pocos estudios evalúan si la obesidad es un factor de riesgo para la artroplastia inversa del hombro. El objetivo de este estudio es confirmar si existen diferencias con respecto a los resultados en pacientes sometidos a artroplastia inversa de hombro de acuerdo con su índice de masa corporal (IMC).

CONCLUSIÓN:
Los resultados funcionales de la artroplastia inversa de hombro son peores en pacientes con un IMC superior a 35.
